Looking at outdoor projects this year? If you are starting to plan for a backyard or outdoor project perfect for entertaining the summer, you might be doing a little bit of research on cost, timeframe, and exactly what it is you’re looking for that will enhance your backyard and add value to your home. At AA Install LLC, we not only work on interior projects and updating but the exterior as well.

Here are five great outdoor projects perfect for summer entertaining.

#1. A new deck or patio.

This is a great project that can work with just about any budget. You can get extravagant or simple depending on your end goals. It’s a great place to start when you’re looking at a backyard remodel and these outdoor projects can typically be done within about a week or so. If you have no deck to work with, building a new deck depends on the type of material that you want to use, the size, and how it connects to the house. Obviously, a deck that is on the second story will need some form of accessibility so adding in stairs with or without a landing can definitely add to the price. A new deck or patio can start at around $1000, especially for simple pavers where an extravagant deck can be upwards of $20,000.

#2. Pergola

A beautiful pergola can definitely add charm and sophistication to your outdoors whether it is on that new deck, on an existing deck, or freestanding. You can do quite a bit with the pergola as well such as add in a swinging seat, add curtains or trellises, train weaving vines and climbing plants, or hang string lights or permanent lighting throughout the underneath side.

#3. Outdoor kitchen.

Outdoor kitchens have gotten quite extravagant over the years. However, this can be a project that requires a light budget or a hefty one. Are you looking to build in a grill? Connect electricity and water? Have several seating areas, built-in tables and chairs, counter space, refrigerators, and sinks? The outdoor kitchen can be quite elaborate or be as simple as creating a beautiful space for your BBQ at a small seating area.

#4. Create a tree house or playhouse.

If you like entertaining folks under 4 feet tall, a treehouse or extravagant playhouse is definitely the key. Jungle gyms, swing sets, and treehouses all create an exciting and enchanting place for little ones. Some treehouses can get quite elaborate with stairs, rope swings, slides, and even separate rooms.

#5. A surround for a swimming pool or hot tub and/or patio.

While we might not have super hot summers, it can get toasty a few days out of the year and a refreshing swimming pool is a perfect way to cool off. However, if you’re looking to warm up during the winter, a built-in hot tub can also do the trick. Having a completely enclosed and surrounded swimming pool with safety gates, stairs, and access can all be constructed to make it as clean, safe, and accessible as possible. Pools can be built with decorative stone, pavers, slate, or even wood decking material.

Choosing one of these great remodeling ideas for outdoor projects can really boost the appeal of your home, add entertainment value, and even increase the value of your home and property overall. Of course, any major projects should be done with a permit and under the advisement of your homeowner’s insurance policy. Additions such as swimming pools, hot tubs, and treehouses should all be cleared to your insurance just to cover all your bases.
